great weather for MEDIA is excited to bring The Other Side of Violet to an amazing speakeasy in Traverse City, Michigan.
Featuring The Other Side of Violet contributor Badaweyah and guest readers including great weather editors David Lawton and Jane Ormerod. This is a terrific opportunity to learn more about the press. There will also be an open mic so bring along a poem or two.
Badaweyah was born in Kansas, lived in Texas, and was reborn in Harlem where she spent the last twenty years of her life. Now, she makes cocktails, and manages the quiet mourners, drowning their sorrows in a fine glass of the finest concocted ingredients in Traverse City, Michigan...this is under the guise of a dancer, a singer, a writer and a creator. She is Badaweyah, and she is muscle.
David Lawton is the author of Sharp Blue Stream (Three Rooms Press), and has had his work published in numerous journals and anthologies. David is a graduate of the theatre program at Boston University, where he was also a Guest Artist in the graduate play writing classes taught by Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott. For ten years he was a background vocalist in the New York underground band Leisure Class. At the band’s de facto headquarters in the Chelsea Hotel, he befriended Beat godfather Herbert Huncke and San Francisco poet Marty Matz, and was inspired by their embodiment of the written word. David also serves as an editor for great weather for MEDIA, and collaborates with poet Aimee Herman in the poemusic collective Hydrogen Junkbox.
Jane Ormerod is the author of Welcome to the Museum of Cattle and Recreational Vehicles on Fire (both Three Rooms Press). Her work can also be found in publications including From Somewhere to Nowhere (AK Press, 2017), Mark Hawk Press Review, Paris Lit Up, Maintenant, Flapperhouse, POST(blank), and Sensitive Skin. She is a founding editor at great weather for MEDIA.
