A street poet, spoken word performer, and visual artist, Jane SpokenWord’s roots were cultivated through the history of jazz poetry and the political movements of the 60's. Connecting the elements of spoken word and music, like those of the The Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron, Patti Smith, Lydia Lunch, Dylan, Hendrix, Tom Waits and so many more, her work harkens a return to counter-culture days from the 1950s and '60s when political uprising sparked an inertia that altered multi-national institutions, traditions and attitudes.

She performs in various venues, from museums, festivals, libraries, slam lounges, art galleries, and clubs, to busking street corners and living rooms everywhere.

Her collaborations, performances and recordings range from solos to ensembles and include among many others; Maestro Cecil Taylor at The Whitney Museum (awarded All About Jazz's Best of 2016,) founder of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe poet Miguel Algarin and Beat poet/political activist John Sinclair.

She has authored two books of poetry 'Word Against the Machine' and 'Tragically Hip' with art and accompanying music by co-author Albey 'onBass' Balgochian and is currently editing her next book "Love & Light" Memories of my her Chrissy Amphlet (The Divinyls.) Her works have been published in the National Beat Poetry Foundation Anthologies (2019- 2020), Moonstone Art Center Anthology Protest 2021, The NYC Underground Poets & Artists Anthology - OhWow Press, Shadow of The Geode - Bonsia Press, Stars in the Fire and Palabras Luminosas - Rogue Scholars Express, The Bezine 100 Thousand Poets for Change Award Winner, Time of the Poet Republic, and Word City Monthly, where she was the director of interviews and podcast (2021.)

She conducts poetry workshops online (and in-person after Covid) for adults and children, as well as guest hosting poetry events.

Her poetry and videos of past works, as well as current projects, are available on her website: https://janespokenword.com/
