Dera R. Williams is an Oakland author who writes in the fiction, nonfiction, and memoir genres. As a family historian and archivist, Dera researches and writes her family history and mentors others in their research. She is an editorial mentor to middle-school students and assists in publishing their writing. She has contributed to over two dozen anthologies and journals and her most current contribution is a magic realism story in a forthcoming anthology in fall 2022. She has compiled a collection of childhood memories, In My Backyard: Stories of Growing Up in Oakland of which she has published a preview. Her novella, Against All Odds, will be published in spring 2022 and is completing a Great Migration novel. She is a member of AfroSurreal Writers Workshop. Exploring the relationship of myth and honoring oral and family history, she honors the voices of her ancestors in her storytelling.
Lyndsey Ellis is a fiction writer and essayist. Her writing appears in The Offing, Joyland, Entropy, Shondaland, and several anthologies. Her debut novel, Bone Broth (Hidden Timber Books), was published in spring 2021. Lyndsey is part of the prose editorial team at great weather for MEDIA.
