Felix Guzman is a poet, community organizer and advocate. He is the author of two chapbooks, Savage Garden Concrete Jungle: A Chapbook to Remember Me By, and Shakur&Bronte&Hughes&Angelou&Shakespeare: Under the Influence.
A born and bred New Yorker, Felix uses his writing to organize and build positive conversations around the issues of ending mass incarceration, ending homelessness, increasing access to harm reduction, and addressing mental health treatment disparity. He teaches poetry workshops in community venues and institutional settings.
Felix’s poems have been published in Voices of Fortune twice, and two of his poems were featured on 4Tune Society Success Stories, an album produced by the Fortune Society. He has performed his poetry at press conferences, rallies, open mics and award ceremonies from the steps of New York City Hall to the storied stage at Carnegie Hall. His op-ed on issues in regard to homelessness was published in the New York Daily News. An op-ed on the importance of removing law enforcement from encounters with those in emotional crisis appeared in City Voices Newspaper.
A committed activist and a dedicated artist, Felix believes that redemption is always possible. He hopes to utilize his own experiences to help provide recovery-oriented instruction in therapeutic practice.
At present, Felix is working towards a career in poetry therapy. His full length poetry collection, You Hold Space, You Have Value, You Are Loved! will launch in the upcoming weeks.
