galère: [French (galƐr) noun. A group of people having a common interest, esp. a coterie of undesirable people.]

A Galère of Poetic Autopsies is held the first Thursday of each month at Hudson’s historic Park Theater. Expect the unexpected as poets, writers, and other creatives from the Hudson area and beyond reveal the inspiration and shadows behind their work.

Hosted by Jane Ormerod

Ifetayo Cobbins was born in Mt. Vernon, NY and grew up in Hudson on and around Allen Street. Ifetayo is an accomplished painter and poet, one who examines both the power of black women and also seeing things through another lens. Her writing is inspired when “a situation comes up” and needs to be written about.  She accepts the challenge to share in a way people can understand and while her intent is not to sting, her words are her screaming out, “Why is no one seeing this?” Ifetayo discusses the current climate of Hudson and her experiences with discrimination, her feelings towards the changes on Warren Street, and fears of displacement amongst specific populations. Ifetayo works for AmeriCorps and Operation Unite, an organization she has been actively involved with since she was eleven years old.

Matthew Hupert is a writer and multi-media artist from New York City. He is a founder of the NeuroNautic Institute and of NeuroNautic Press. He has two full-length collections, Ism is a Retrovirus (Three Rooms Press, 2011) and Secular Pantheism (NeuroNautic Press, 2019). He is also the author of several chapbooks, and his writing has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. Matthew hosts several poetry reading series, including the annual showcase for New York voices “Night in the Naked City,” and the monthly series “NeuroNautic Institute Presents.” He is a recipient of the 2020 New York Acker Award for Show Organizer and Host.

John K Lawson is a multi-disciplinary artist and poet nationally known for his use of recycled materials and collages. His three collections of poetry and visually striking collage books use the voice of a beleaguered Muse struck pilgrim, Some Guy Upstairs attempting to decipher, by any means necessary, the multi-layered mystery surrounding restless souls and lost heroes found on cracked sidewalks and fairey lit bars of Urbania. Reading poems from the Zombie Love Trilogy and excerpts from his novel Hurricane Hotel, Some Guy Upstairs is thrilled to be part of this poetic adventure.  For more information, visit www.lawsonworks.com or find John on Instagram at jkl_art.
