He self-published his first book of poems, One Man’s Journey back in 2007 and has been actively blogging since 2012 through his site The Anointed Pen Scrolls. His poetry touches on various subjects such as faith in God, love, current events & humor. His poem “This New America” is featured in the anthology 2020: The Year That Changed America by Kevin Powell’s Writing Workshop. His poetry has also been featured in the 2022 & 2023 editions of the Poetry Month Anthologies by the New Brunswick Free Public Library.

Obsidian has been strongly entrenched in the New York City poetry scene since 1990. He co-hosted with Hobo Bob two open mic poetry venues - the “Times Square Shout out” and the “Shout out at Otto’s” - from 2007-2010. He and his co-host were the subjects of a documentary of NPR Radio’s “This American Life” hosted by Ira Glass in 2008.

Obsidian appeared on Columbia University Radio station WKCR-89.9FM “Studio A Series” hosted by Anne Cammon Fiero and is published as a contributing poet in the anthologies Diner with the Muse and The Venetian Hour (edited by Evie Ivy). He is also a contributing poet in the recent anthology NYC From the Inside: NYC Through the Eyes of  the Poets Who Live Here (edited by George Wallace). Obsidian has also published two books; an action novel entitled The Shaitan and a semi-autobiographical work called The Hobo Handbook: Memoirs of a Homeless Poet in New York under his real name Daniel Canada. He is currently working on another short novel, which is soon to be published. So stay tuned!
